Artist Statement
"Dave Augenstein is a stone sculptor based in Lynnwood, Washington, whose work explores both the human figure and expressive abstract forms. Working primarily in marble, alabaster, and onyx, he is drawn to the timeless strength and quiet luminosity of stone. For Dave, each piece begins with a vision—an image or feeling he strives to reveal from within the raw material. The process is as much about discovery as it is about discipline, embracing the physical and creative challenges that carving stone demands.
This year marks Dave’s fourth participation in the Edmonds Art Studio Tour, where he welcomes visitors into his Lynnwood home studio to share his latest creations and offer insight into his process. His sculpture Paloma received Honorable Mention in the 2023 NuD Gallery Show at Graphite Gallery in Edmonds, Washington, a recognition that reflects both his craftsmanship and artistic sensitivity.
Dave’s sculptures range from carefully rendered human forms to fluid, abstract compositions that emphasize movement, balance, and texture. Whether figurative or abstract, each work reveals his respect for the integrity of stone and his commitment to transforming solid mass into expressive, living form."
