Artist Statement
"Cheryl's work explores the intersection of nature, memory, and geography through vibrant mixed‑media collages. Birds—symbols of freedom, migration, and resilience—serve as central figures, each one crafted from textured paper, recycled elements, and found materials. Set against detailed maps, these avian forms invite viewers to consider the connections between place, journey, and the natural world.
Maps function as both literal guides and metaphors in her practice, grounding each piece in a specific landscape while evoking curiosity and discovery. The interplay of color, pattern, and texture reflects the complexity and beauty of the environments we inhabit—real and imagined.
Through her work, she encourages reflection on home, belonging, and the stories that shape our sense of place. An Edmonds resident, she has participated in the Edmonds Artist Studio Tour for three years, with her work shown in galleries and festivals throughout the Pacific Northwest."
