Artist Statement
"Katie Leute is a fine art jeweler based in Edmonds, Washington, where she lives and works in her home studio. She is new to the Edmonds Art Studio Tour and is excited to welcome visitors into her creative process and share the stories behind her work. Katie works primarily in sterling silver and gold, often incorporating natural gemstones such as rustic diamonds, sapphires, tourmalines, turquoise, and other hand-selected stones cut in natural and organic forms. As a devoted rockhound, she is especially drawn to gems with visible inclusions and unique geological features, celebrating them as records of time and transformation.
Her work explores themes of everyday folklore, heirlooms, protection, and the quiet symbolism embedded in objects we carry close to the body. Inspired by the flowing organics found in nature, as well as historical ornamentation and decorative arts traditions, she creates pieces that balance structure with fluidity. Each design begins with sketches and stone pairings, then moves through processes such as lost wax casting, fabrication, and hand-etching. Every piece is made by her hands, resulting in one-of-a-kind jewelry that honors both material and meaning."
